It’s already one week into December! This is the month of the year when every student is stressed out. Whether you’re in college and have finals the first week of May, or you’re a high school student who is getting ready for their exams, it’s a rough time for everyone. Being a parent of stressed-out students can certainly be tough, so I’ve come up with a few ideas you may want to incorporate to help offer some stress relief and relieve some of the daily school stress your household may be experiencing.
Comfort Food
With exams, projects, and finals on the back of their minds constantly. Many students forget to eat properly, which can lead to health issues and a lack of nutrients. The best way to combat a lack of eating or eating too much quick junk food is to prepare small snacks and meals that are tasty and considered “comfort food,” but contain nutrients. Ideal snacks include chips with hummus or guacamole, fruit salad, peanut butter, banana pitas, and chicken wraps.
Peanut butter and banana pita wraps were one of my favorite snacks growing up and are fun, tasty, easy to make, and can give you a quick boost of energy and make you less hungry throughout the day. Feel free to jazz it up by adding granola, honey, or blueberries into the mix. Chips and hummus or guacamole can be good in moderation. You may also want to consider substituting chips with baby carrots to help reduce calorie intake. A small snack like this can go a long way and is also very flavorful.
Sleep Routine
It’s not just about getting enough sleep at night. I mean, yes that is a very important aspect of being focused and doing well in your studies, but that isn’t the only thing you should be worrying about. Students tend to ignore health routines when they are stressed. It’s important to wash your face, take showers regularly, or even a warm bath before bed.
Set your students up for success, maybe treat them with a few products like face masks, bath bombs, and lotions. Lush sells all-natural fresh face masks that have active ingredients meant to help reduce stress and cause your skin to look younger.
We know you want to help your student out with whatever it may be that they need, but doing so can stress you out in the process. Make sure you put yourself first as well and take time to relax. Productivity on the job can suffer if you focus too much on how your kids are doing. Be there for them if “kneaded”, but be there for yourself too.
