The days are lighter longer and some have their sites set on Memorial Day weekend! While I was at a yoga class earlier this morning, the instructor reminded the class that we can now officially wear white again. Her statement made me wonder. Do employees really abide by this outdated rule like many others? Many outdated wellness programs bring little interest, unlike chair massage!
Studies have shown that hot weather can cause an increase in levels of aggression. The number of crimes committed in large cities rises during the hot summer months. Large companies like AAA report that drivers are more aggressive with their driving behaviors.
Bringing this stream of thought back into the office, hot weather often leads to discomfort. I know this is sometimes an issue in my own house so I can only imagine how it widely varies in the workplace. I often see clients in long sleeves and sweaters arriving for this chair massage appointment, even in the summertime!
Summertime also tempts the office staff with bright sunnies skies and dreams of being poolside. Obvious sunburns can also show off time spent away from the desk.
Summertime dress is often a concern. Flip flops or no flip flops? Are sandals too casual? Most HR departments set the guidelines for these concerns according to the internal dress code. What is your office protocol? Have standards been set and enforced? If the business is a manufacturing facility, closed-toed shoes are often required year-round.
Spring and summer are ideal to refresh the interest and encourage employees to stay in the office rather than daydream about what waits for them following typical business hours!
For example, meditation can help with anxiety as it calms the mind and refreshes. This could help relieve the stress that hot and sometimes lengthy commutes to and from the office cause. Yoga classes strengthen, stretch, and can even warm up the body if the employee is sensitive to colder AC temps. On-site chair massage can increase productivity, decrease stress, and calm the body from the strain of sitting many hours at the desk.
I was pleased to receive this testimonial recently as a new client sent me this kind of follow-up.
5 stars! Amazing!
